In a not too distant future where technology and artificial intelligence have permeated everyone’s daily lives, The Pod Generation follows a couple who have been dispatched to New York. Rachel and her husband had long desired to have a child of their own despite being unable to conceive. The software company Rachel works for offers her the chance to accept a position at the Womb Center, where couples can decide to become parents using a pod that functions as an artificial womb. Alvy, a botanist, prefers natural birth because he values nature’s aesthetic accomplishments. Alvy and Rachel both decide to have the baby in a pod artificially when the chance arises. The couple is aware that there are many difficulties involved with using technology to create a child, difficulties that are not dissimilar from difficulties involved in giving birth organically.
